Previewing a Formula Within the Interview

There are multiple ways to preview information before selecting Complete at the end of an interview to create a finished document. View this section to learn other ways to preview information within the interview.

There are multiple ways to create a preview of a formula. You can create an information cell or add to a variable's question prompt.

Previewing a Formula with a Information Cell

To preview a formula with a information cell, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Designer tab of the online workspace. Select the layouts tab.
  2. Click and drag an information cell to the location in the layout you would like the preview.
  3. Insert the formula from the search bar on the right. Add any additional formatting to the formula you may need. Save.

Note: In our example, we included some additional text formatting. You can review Formatting Your Interviews With Video, Colors, and Images to learn how to add text formatting.

  4. Navigate to the Dashboard and select Review or Update to view the changes made to the interview.

Note: You may notice that there is no dollar sign attached to this number or any explanation for what this number is. We can update this by adding to the language within the information cell in the layouts tab:

###Preview
Total cost: ${[Matter.TotalCost|format: "0,0.00"]}

If you do not want the preview to always appear, you can also add conditional logic by creating a True/False variable PreviewTF. Additionally, you can edit the cell within the layouts tab just like any other cell, so you can change the span:

If PreviewTF is not selected, the interview will appear like this:

When PreviewTF is selected, the interview will appear like this:

Previewing a Formula with a Question Prompt

To preview a formula with a variable's question prompt, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the variable you wish to update with the formula preview. In our example, we are previewing the TotalCost formula within the matter model. We will add it to the Attorney selection variable.
  2. Update the question prompt with the formula. You can add whatever conditions you need within this prompt. Save.

Note: We chose to include an else feature. This is conditional logic that will be explained below.

  3. Navigate to the Dashboard and select Review or Update to view the changes made to the interview.

If the fields needed to answer the formula are not answered, the preview will look like this:
