Creating a Test Catalog
Follow the instructions below or watch the accompanying video here to learn how to create a test catalog:
Having a catalog where you can test things out without client data is beneficial to learning the best tools in Knackly. You can create a catalog only you or select designers see that does not affect any active catalogs—this is specifically beneficial for testing out new features in Knackly.
To create a catalog first navigate to the Catalog tab. Select Add a new catalog.
Name the catalog with initial uppercase letters. This is integral to distinguishing the catalog from an object model in the designer tab.
In some cases, you may be testing features with a specific topic in mind. For example, EstatePlanning is used for client data, however, we are testing a new app for EstatePlanning. You may consider naming the catalog EstateTest to distinguish it from any other catalogs.
Since we are basing EstateTest on EstatePlanning, select EstatePlanning in the Type selection.
Note: To create a completely new catalog, do not base the catalog type on an existing catalog.
Note that the apps on this catalog section is updated because of the Type.
After creating the catalog, you may notice it does not appear as a dashboard in the tab bar. To include this catalog, hover over the profile icon and select Groups.
Since this is a test catalog you probably only want designers to see, select Add New Group. Name this group in a way that clarifies this is for testing.
In the Users tab, select Add users. Add any designer here who should see the test catalog. Select Save.
Select the Permissions tab. Check the test catalog and any other catalogs the designer should see, for example, EstatePlanning, and Save.
Refresh the page. EstateTest is updated as a dashboard.
The last step before testing features in the EstateTest is to pin the apps in EstatePlanning. This essentially pauses the apps in EstatePlanning so the apps can still collect client data while you edit them in EstateTest.
To do this, navigate to the Catalog tab. Select the dropdown under the “Live” Version section and select the date in which you wish to pause the app.
The Latest setting will run the app at the most recent update.
Select Save.
You can now edit any features in EstateTest.
