August 2026 Release Notes

The August release brings a major set of improvements to Knackly, with new visual tools, easier document automation workflows, in-app document preview, and the introduction of AI-assisted document automation.

Here’s what’s new.

AI-Assisted Document Automation — Beta

We’re introducing AI-assisted document automation in beta, designed to help you automate existing documents faster.

The new AI-assisted workflow works alongside Knackly’s structured automation tools, giving you a faster starting point while maintaining the control and precision needed for sophisticated document automation.

Document Preview in Your Apps

You can now let users preview generated documents directly inside a Knackly app before exporting them to Word.

Enable Document Preview in the App Designer, and users will see a Preview Documents option after generating their documents. Apps that generate multiple documents also allow users to move between each document in the preview.

This provides a convenient way to review document content and general formatting without leaving the app.

New Graphical PDF Interface

Automating PDFs is now much more visual.

The new graphical PDF interface lets you work directly with a preview of the PDF, including dragging and dropping Knackly fields onto the appropriate locations in the document.

You can also build conditional logic using the visual builder or continue using advanced expressions when you need more control.

New Graphical Relevance Builder

Setting relevance no longer requires manually writing every condition.

The updated Relevance interface gives you four options: Automatic, Always, Conditions, and Advanced. Choose Conditions to visually build rules that determine when questions and other items should appear.

Advanced mode remains available when you want to write or manage the underlying expression yourself.

Updated Word Designer

The Knackly Word Designer has received a major update designed to make document automation faster and easier to manage directly from Word.

You can now create variables without leaving your document, use improved search and IntelliSense, visually build If statements with AND/OR logic, create and format lists, filter the items displayed in the Designer, and use Matched highlighting to better understand conditional logic.

We’ve also improved error handling with a new Go to field option that can take you directly to a problematic field in your document.

Built to Make Automation Easier

The August release represents a significant step toward making sophisticated document automation easier to build.

From visual PDF mapping and relevance rules to an improved Word Designer and AI-assisted automation, these updates reduce the amount of manual work required to turn complex documents and workflows into powerful Knackly applications.

We’re excited to see what you build with them.
